Gentle Paths

After the encounter with the leaf-cutter ants I’ve been working to cultivate an environment that will help the plants to heal from the damage they caused, one that is full of a calming, gentle energy that gives them the space to heal in their own time.

Watercolour painting on paper and music by me. I don’t use AI, at any stage, to create my work.

Our cells vibrate at particular frequencies and studies have shown that acoustic frequencies can affect the behaviour of cells. For example, one study has shown that acoustic frequencies can affect the movement of fibroblasts [1] (cells that are important in the healing of wounds).

There’s also evidence to suggest that music incorporating solfeggio frequencies may be beneficial for health in humans and animals. There don’t appear to be that many studies of the effects of solfeggio frequencies on human health in research databases, well not that I can find from the research I’ve done so far.

One small study[2] found that music incorporating 528 Hz may reduce stress levels in humans (evidenced by reduced cortisol levels[2] (the hormone that’s released when we’re stressed) and an increase in oxytocin levels[2] (the hormone that has, among other things, a positive effect on mood)). Researchers have also found that solfeggio music may be associated with a reduction in cortisol levels and cognitive deficits caused by light exposure in fish.[3] I’m interested in finding out more about the specific mechanisms that are behind these effects so will be doing a bit more research to see if anyone has studied this in more detail.

I’ve also been wondering if acoustic frequencies can help with the healing and regeneration of plants. Studies have shown that sound waves may be associated with the stimulation of physiological changes in plants including an increase in growth, disease resistance and shorter germination times,[4] which is a pretty remarkable finding. From the studies I’ve been reading plants clearly have a form of sentience. They are more than just a pretty face!

I’ve been playing solfeggio music around the plants and I try to keep the environment around them as calm and quiet as possible to give them the best possible space for healing. My dog also seems to enjoy the music taking the opportunity to relax or have a nap when the music is on. She also likes Haydn’s cello concertos, which seem to help her to relax before bedtime.

There is so much about the energetic world that we don’t definitively know or understand. Music can have powerful effects on mood, and like many forms of art, it has the potential to help heal our hearts, soul and spirit. Music that has the energy of Truth, is a powerful sustaining force of life.
