The beauty of a rose,
Lives,
Not only in the elegant subtleties of its colour—
A gentle invitation,
To revel in the complexity of a creation,
Delivered from wondrous realms far beyond the earthly plane;
Neither is it discovered only in the richness of its scent,
That for a moment,
Can overpower the tangible senses,
Suspending time inside a minute that stretches to hours;
Nor is it present only in plush, creamy petals,
(A haven for a fortune unrecognised by uninspired wanderings)
Whose smoothness brings a calm,
That can temper even the most harried of minds;
No, this is a particular beauty,
That also lives in:
The unrestrained leap of a forlorn heart,
The warmth of a smile, emerging from a place of pure wonder,
The soothing of a self, living in overwhelm on discovering a life that is not its own; and
The emboldening presence
Within
An honest appreciation;
This is a beauty:
That is found in the delighting and marvelling,
Of a creation that knows nothing of irreconcilable agendas,
But lives in the freedom of its own being,
Without need of recognition or self-deprecation.
Let us not forget, or disregard, the value in the things that are often considered inconsequential trivialities; genuine kindness and thoughtfulness without hidden agendas or expectations; gentle, forgiving hearts that are embraced and accepted rather than scorned or ridiculed; and mutually respectful connections that nurture, encourage and support. Perhaps these are qualities and characteristics that must be found within before they can be truly appreciated and valued in the wider world.
Sincerely, in friendship and understanding
