Days are quiet here.
It is a quiet bearing a stillness that is merely tolerable and, at times, hugely unsettling. The tranquility of a solitude that countenances the freedom of flow and expression from a vast comprehension does not appear to be present. Nevertheless, the painting work is slowly, in small ways, beginning to reflect a little of the intention of an original vision. In circumstances such as this, it has been necessary for there to be much labouring over practicalities; the intricacies of edge work, the nuances of colour mixing and layering of one colour over another. It is still early days, but progress feels more in alignment with the demands of a dutiful expression than before.
Grace has certainly been present; in the thoughtfulness of people and the companionship of beautiful animals. One dog in particular, a peaceful, spirited creature with a delightful personality has become a trusted and true friend. Many a wonderful evening has been spent sitting together in the glow of the setting sun, watching flocks of birds as they swoop in triumphant formations high above the trees—as if in celebration of life itself—and listening to the wind as it carries the harmonies of the retreating day to a secret resting place far over the mountains.
Recently, Schubert and his Moments Musicaux accompanied us, enthralling two tiny birds who were busy preening themselves and each other as they perched in a mango tree. Every so often they would stop (particularly during the intense beauty of the No. 2 in A flat major) captivated by the purity of these solo piano pieces full of nostalgia and a poignant melancholy.
These are moments of life that bring clarity, truth and solace.
May these moments find their way to you in integrity.
Sincerely,
SC
